Through the Brussels Regional Program for a Circular Economy 2016-2020 (BRPCE), the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region has defined a framework to “encourage the transformation of a linear economy (extract – produce – consume – dispose) into a circular economy (recover – produce – consume – reuse) within the Brussels-Capital Region”.
With its 3 mains objectives:
• To transform environmental objectives into economic opportunities
• To relocate the economy to Brussels in order to produce locally whenever possible, reduce travel, optimise land use and create added value for Brussels inhabitants
• To help create employment
the Brussels Regional Program for a Circular Economy 2016-2020 aims to drastically reduce the amount of resources wasted at source and at the same time reduce environmental impacts and improve well-being of residents. The BRPCE is part of the Brussels Regional Strategy 2025 which defines the objective to act as a vector for change for the Brussels economy with a prospective vision over 10 years. The environment is identified as a resource for the creation of local jobs, linked with the development of a regional program towards a circular economy.
ARCTIK has been contracted to support the Brussels Capital Region by producing strategic communication, design and event organisation services. Over 5 years, this work will lead Arctik to collaborate with the four regional administrative bodies coordinating the BRPCE:
• Impulse (the Brussels Enterprise Agency),
• Brussels Environment (the Brussels administration for the Environment and Energy),
• Bruxelles-Propreté Agency (the Brussels agency for urban cleaning, and the collection and treatment of household waste)
• and Innoviris (The Brussels administration for the promotion and support of innovation).
In 2017, our team has launched the Regional circular economy new website and coordinated the organisation of the first #beCircular Annual Meeting gathering pioneering cities of the circular economy such as Amsterdam, Paris, Glasgow, London and Lille, and more than 350 professionals (companies, public authorities, federations, associations, etc.), that will come and provide solutions for the economy of tomorrow!
