Since 2011, the Belgian region Wallonia has implemented the European Birds and Habitat directives. The EU legislation led to the establishment of the EU nature protection network
“Natura2000”.
Wallonia has started to select and map 240 sites and 220,000 hectares of protected land in the region. This three-stages process began with an identification phase, then a legal designation of the sites and, finally, the monitoring of the state of conservation of these areas.
In that context, in April 2013 several pieces of land owned by Ralph Hananel were designated Natura2000 as:
- UG-5 – Prairie de liaison – Meadows
- UG-8 – Forêts indigènes de grand intérêt biologique – Native forests of biological importance
“Walking the talk is indispensible if we want to conserve and protect the environment”, says Ralph, co-founder of Arctik and proud owner of now Natura2000 sites!
